Getting to Expectation at Campbell River BC
By air: You have a choice of flying West Jet to Courtenay-Comox airport followed by shuttle or taxi service to Campbell River 30 miles [50 km] north. Alternatively, you can fly 30 minutes on a West Coast Air float plane from Vancouver city center to the float plane harbor in Campbell River, ½ mile from where Expectation is moored.
By road: Take any of the ferries that provide car service to Vancouver Island. The Coho ferry connects Port Angeles WA with Victoria on the island. The BC ferry system connects Vancouver to Victoria and Nanaimo [half way north from Victoria to Campbell river]. There is even a 4-ferry plus road circuit that connects North Vancouver to Courtenay by way of the very scenic “Sunshine Coast” [this route requires at least one extra day]. Once on the island, take Highway 1 north from Victoria to Nanaimo [1.5 hours] then Highway 19 north from Nanaimo to Campbell River [1.5 hours].
Reservations are available on the ferry systems at a reasonable fee and insulate you from the possible 2-4 hour lineups on these popular routes.
